PIERRE MONTHEILLET (1923 – 2001)
Beginning his career in Lyon in the 1950s, he was born into painting in abstraction. But its alchemy is original since it is developed from the motif, on the ground. In love with the peaceful banks of the Ain river, he tirelessly explores familiar corners, foliage, gaps in light, escapes to lush meadows, sun and damp shade. The gentle concert of fluid and shivering, he captures it on the spot in rapid gouaches where the visible is already diluted in spots and rhythms.
